↓ 經過紅瓦厝客家料理不知幾回,託「河洛坊」老闆林銘文先生的福,

才得以一窺堂奧。感恩感恩!

I have passed by Red-roofed Hakka Cuisine without actually

visiting.  Thanks to Vincent, Owner of a puppet workshop,

I finally had a chance.

basil, soy bean sauce, black sesame oil and rice wine.

↓ 一次點三道筍,讓沒看過筍子也吃不到筍子的美國友人一次嚐足。

I asked the restaurant owner to show Robert the fresh

water bamboo and explained why it's nisknamed

"beauty's legs".  These "bamboo shoots" dishes are nowhere

to be found at his hometown.

I showed Robert to dip the yam in iced water to quickly

solidify the sticky hot maltose before eating.

↓ 回到「河洛坊」去買布袋戲偶:戲神

After dinner, Robert went back to the Workshop to purchase

the Saint of Puppetry and Music that Vincent was holding.

Red face is a symbol of righteousness.  Both sides of the

Saint's mouth are decorated with crab's claws to memorize

his experience to live on crabs' bubbles when abandoned.

陳大師週末下午在台北偶戲館傳授戲偶製作

The 80-year-old Master Chen teaches puppet-making at

PACT's DIY Workshop on Saturday afternoons. 

He became an apprentice at age 13 and was awarded

National Treasure of Chinese Culture and Art in 2007.

Master Chen invited us to visit his House of Historical Relics.

招待外國友人到世界級博物館參觀+用餐後,

再帶他去體驗台灣傳統藝術:布袋戲。

在台北偶戲館遇到和藹可親的台灣國寶陳錫煌大師,

陳大師熱心親自導覽,還邀請我們到他那古蹟的宅邸坐坐,

現場示範布袋戲三個主角,還贈送友人一片為公視錄製的DVD。

我們真是幸運,承蒙大師看得起,甘溫啦!

河洛坊」的林老闆熱情大方,不僅一路護送我們,

還請我們吃客家大餐,友人確實感受到台灣人盛情的待客之道。

After the Museum tour and a nice vegetarian lunch,

Robert and I visited PACT to experience Taiwanese

performing folk art: puppetry.  It was truly our honor

to meet with Master Chen and Vincent.  I believe Robert

has enjoyed Taiwanese hospitality.
